Savings, investments and cash flow

Cash, shares, funds and bonds, each taxed its own way; the mix the household holds by age; the cash buffer, and the order money is raised in when it is needed.

Every kind of holding

Cash, shares, funds, government, corporate and index-linked bonds, private equity, crypto and collectibles. Each chargeable holding asks for its cost, so a sale is taxed on its true gain.

Funds

Each fund has its own mix and annual charge and is taxed either under exit tax or as shares, its purchases entered lot by lot. Pensions are invested as funds too, by age, with their charge.

The mix, held as entered

The mix by age is held exactly as the household gives it, every type rebalanced within a band. The model's own risk rule applies only if chosen.

Cash flow, the buffer and the order money is raised in

  • An emergency fund refilled to its target
  • When money is needed, the household's own order: investments first, the pension first within the standard rate band, or funds kept for last
  • What is saved from each age, the rest left in cash earning a deposit rate
  • Planned trades: sell, invest or give away at an age

How you invest, compared

The same money in a low-cost index fund, held directly, or in a rental property, all on the same futures, so the comparison is the investment's and not chance's.
