The State Pension and social welfare

What the State pays each person, from each person's own record: the State Pension, the increase for a qualified adult, the Bereaved Partner's Pension, the benefits each PRSI class insures, and Fair Deal.

The State Pension (Contributory)

Each person's record, full, a reduced share or none, paid with no retirement condition. Deferral to the age-referenced rates, with the step back for months another payment is received; the increase at 80; uprated with prices.

Money in and out for one simulated life: money in above the line, money out below, year by year.
Money in and out: one simulated life, year by year, money coming in above the line and going out below, every payment from the State among it.

The increase for a qualified adult

Means-tested on the qualified adult's own income, capital and rent, using the older reduced-rate table where it applies, and ending at either death.

An example

Pádraig's wife has no State Pension record of her own, so his pension carries the increase for a qualified adult, decided by her own capital: what she owns, and half of what they own together.

The Bereaved Partner's Pension

For a spouse, and for a cohabitant who meets the years-together test: paid as the higher of it and the survivor's own pension, never on top of it, and at the full rate, a stated assumption.

Benefits by PRSI class

Jobseeker's Pay-Related Benefit, Jobseeker's Benefit (Self-Employed), Illness Benefit then Invalidity Pension, and Carer's Benefit, each only where the person's class insures it, and one at a time (s.247). Only Class A carries statutory redundancy.

Fair Deal

Nursing Home Support: the contribution from income and from assets above the disregard, the couple's rates, the charge on the home, the cap that protects it, and repayment when it falls due. Gifts within the look-back count. The dashboard sets Fair Deal beside paying privately, so the adviser can show both.

See it on a real client

Every page of the dashboard is in the demo, on example households, with their brief and pack.
